Hi my name is jen and I have been on CPH since I started my weight loss journey last summer 6.08. I just had smartlipo done on my abs  (3.3.09) and today is day 4. I would like to keep this as a ongoing journal so that one may get some insight on knowing what to expect when having a procedure such as this when large amount of weight have been lost. I will post some photos and leave more notes soon. right now I am off to rest.

Hugs,

smart lipo: liposuction with the of a use laser. smartlipo.com . It melts the fat first killing the cells and then suctioning it out. Quicker recover time and a smoother appearance that traditional lipo.

Holy Batman! Well, I wasn't expecting to feel so #%@&! but I am feeling much better now.

It is more painful than they state and the recovery is longer as well at least for abs. I am not sure if I am going to get the look I wanted but only time will tell. They don't tell you that you will look like a lumpy bumpy spongbob for about 4-5 days and days 1-3 are the WORST! I really freaked out and thought...omg what have I done! I laid on my back for the most part since my goal is to aid in skin taking down. I have shrunk much more in days 5-7 and able to move about more stand longer and sleep on my side and stomach.

The first thing I have notice is that my "muffin top" is gone -it wasn't really bad anyway since my weight loss and I am much slimmer from the belly button up. I can see muscle definition and most of my swelling right now is below the button (not attractive I must say) to above the knees- yes its all gravity and fluid retention related. The belly button needs to reshape too but it all takes time and it is the last to reshape. I won't look like a smooth ab model but the whole point was to look better, get rid of the panus,  and feel better- not a barbie want to be.

They had to drain some fluid today but your numb for several weeks so i didn't feel it and overall when she was done I felt better and my belly went WAY DOWN (fluid swelling). They drain 70cc out which is a lot for the small areas. The draining will aid in getting rid of the excess fluid faster and easier on my body so it won't fight so hard to do it.

Last night I went to Pilate's and felt great but I have missed 1 wk of working out basically so I was tired and it was all I could do. I have NOT put any weight on and I am holding at 142 so that outta tell you- I am much lower than that since I have about 5-8lb of water retention. I am shaping up but I am hoping the small panus I have from child#1 19 yrs will go away-one can only hope, if not then it will be off for tummy tuck because my main goal is no panus and a bit smooth look.

The feeling:

It fells like skinned knees for about a wk (burning, stinging and pulling) the skin tightens and becomes harder and more youthful very interesting feeling and makes eating a different experience/ sensation. My stretch marks..well, some are smoother and bruising was pretty bad but much of it is gone above the belly button. The ribcage area hurts the worse with no bruising... funny. I have red marks from lasering and was told it would fade and go away and my skin may peel but nothing to worry about (hmmm).  Looks like a newborn rashy/blotchy skin. The hip area is weirdest feeling, it feels like someone is constantly pulling down on my hips-the skin is tighten up fast in this area. You must wear a compression garment for 3 wk or more (it is UGLY) it fit under the breast and wear like biker shorts it is all 1 piece and makes you fell like your wearing a TIGHT corset.

I still have other parts to do: arms, thighs, butt and chin all mainly for skin re-tack but I will know more after the 25th. It taks about 3 wks to get somewhat of an idea of what your area will look like and will take 6mth for the total effect to show through but most see it around 12 wks i guess it depends on the area, how much fat was removed, and so on.

They removed 3 pounds of fat and 2 pounds of fluid but put 8 pounds of fluid in me for the surgery (read above how they do it)- All lidocaine solution. Overall I was 6 pounds heavier after they we're done but back down now and like I said above, more to go. I will get photos up as soon as I can. I have before and right after and will show more as I heal.

Well this was long and I hope it makes sense as I have been half daft with all the meds I am on.

Jen, thanks for the info about smartlipo.

I had regular lipo years ago and the results were bumpy on my stomach. The thing about lipo - unless there has been a change that I don't know about - is that it's really just for balancing out where the fat is.

What I didn't know is that the fat comes back but in different places. So it works well if you want to lose the stomach but don't care as much about fat butt or thighs... your body will decide where the fat will go and it can be a surprize.

The great thing is that it can help balance out your body. You still need to keep your weight down.

Forums like this are a great place to go for support...Good luck. You will do great!

I had a few small sections of my lower body treated with smartlipo after tireless diet and exercise. I’m of normal weight and height and no matter how much weight I dropped, these problem areas persisted. I’m happy I opted for smartlipo, as it really was the only way to get rid of the stubborn fat. The entire thing went by fairly quickly and my recovery was not in the least bit challenging. I chose local anesthesia so that I could be awake throughout the procedure, which likely had something to do with my quick recovery. If you’re unsure about the procedure, I recommend you see a doctor for a consultation. I highly recommend my surgeon if you’re in NY, his site is: webplastics.com/procedure/body/smartlipo-triplex/
