All of the information that I found indicates that very low calories can indeed decrease your muscle mass.  I'm not saying that it's an absolute fact and I am open to different information.  I did read in another post that you gained muscle while eating 500-700 calories per day, but you were also lifting weights 10 hours a week.  I think that the average person who is eating very low calories is not lifting weights for 10 hours a week and may therefore lose muscle mass. Just my thoughts on the matter.

Actually, I was told by my Dr. that you could not only lose muscle on 500 cal/day, but also bone. But the hcg shot releases 1500+ cal/day into your system so that you are able to only lose fat. You definitely need to exercise on this program as you will need to keep the weight off and get used to a healthier lifestyle after the 60 days is complete; as to not gain back the weight. I am on day 7 of pharmaceutical hcg injections from a Dr. here in Florida and I am miserable. As of day 5 (3 days ofter the gorge) I lost 7 pounds but I'm thinking about missing Thanksgiving and worry about whether I can have a slice of turkey and a thimble of gravy!:yum: I have had crazy mood swings:shock:, depression, and though I am an honor student in college I missed a class last week because I didn't feel like going. I have had thoughts of booking a flight to Hawaii and leaving my boyfriend of 15 years and my 2 yr old daughter! This is not good. I want a piece of cheese so bad and eating green salad with nothing on it is getting old. Yesterday I smelled some cole slaw while I ate my salad and it was kind of like eating cole slaw, so that was good. Anyone without amazing willpower should not try this strict , masochistic diet. I am a recovering addict with over 3 years clean and thought I could do anything, but I am not sure if I can do this. So good luck to the rest of you and congratz to all that have done it! One day at a time, God grant me the serenity and so on. BTW Does anyone know if it's Ok to just lick a granola bar?!:chewing:

After years of constant weight gain - no matter what I did or didn't do, I was finally diagnosed as being hypothyroid. Once I got on medication and found my optimal dose (150mg 2x day of Armor Thyroid) I was able to lose weight successfully, albeit very, very slowly. It took me 18 months of careful selection of foods and exercise to lose 40lbs. My sister had done HCG and kept telling me to try it it. I told her I'd research it and then decide.

After reading Dr Simeon's protocol and the history behind it, as well as the the detractions I though it would work for me but I wanted to be at 200lbs before trying. Once I hit that weight I wanted to start at (after the 40lbs) I found an MD that offered the program in my area (not wanting to chance my health with DIY self medication).

I recently completed a full 5 week HCG course under his supervision. While on the HCG we had to adjust the medication to 90mg 2xd but other than that I had no ill effects. My blood sugars were good, and I never felt tired or weak. While it's true that a very low cal diet (VLCD) can effect muscle and bone - for a very obese person the 40 day series will do more good than harm. If you start out with less than 50lbs to lose - do 21 days. That's not enough time to harm you at all. Then you go on a 14-1800 cal a day diet and start to exercise again. Oh- You should NOT exercise except a 15-30 minute WALK during the VLCD time. Then you WILL have problems.

After phase 2 I was ready to eat a more varied diet, but was surprised at how difficult it was to enter phase 3 and consume more food/cal. My beginning weight for phase 2 was 205. I lost 28 lbs during phase 2 and on phase 3 & 4 I've plateaued at 181/182 and am maintaining that weight nicely. (I never expected to lose too much because of the thyroid and I went on cruise during phase 3/4 so I am pleased with the results). I will do another protocol but will only do the 21 day - and no umbrella drinks during phase 3/4 :).

I am still avoiding grains, sugars and starchy veg as much as possible - they seem to be my worst enemy as far as weight goesand agravate my acid reflux.

Hello, I have been researching the hcg diet to decide whether or not it is right for me. I have about 40 pounds to lose. I am finishing up my RN training and am currently working shift work (12 hour day and night shifts) and am wondering if there is anybody else using the hcg diet working shift work? I am worried that these shifts will screw up my diet and the amount I'm eating. Also, where is the best website to order these drops off? Thanks!

Wow - first I applaud you being a nurse and second, you're doing shift work. HCG should work fine for you. Just remember to eat the 2x a day (night) and get in your sleep in a block of at least 6 hours (8 would be better but who does that, right?). Your 'morning' weigh in and shot should be right after your longest sleep period.

Here's how I worked my schedule: My day started around 4:45am - pee/ weigh/ shot/ coffee(b'fast) - in that order. Most days I also had apple cider vinegar in water too. Apple as an am snack (~0830 since I'd be up nearly 4 hours); eat my 1st meal ~1130-1200;  sometimes eat a second snack @3pm (either 2nd fruit or my grissini/melba toast with coffee/tea), eat my last meal by 6:30pm (sometimes I'd save my evening grisini/toast as a pm snack).

Hi Lisa,

I sure hope you still get emails from this site! Back in 2008 you wrote “I am on levothyroid. topamax, & effexor XR and these are not optional. Has anyone out there had adverse effects with drug interactions, severe headaches while on the diet? I've got about 55 pounds to lose and I am ready to make the commitment.”

Well I’m currently on the dreaded Effexor and want to lose 55kgs(can you believe it!) using the hCG diet and was keen to see how you went; any side effects , did you lose, did the meds stop you losing at the typical rate, were you able to keep it off? Sorry for being so personal, but as a fellow sufferer I’m sure you understandJ Also have you tried coming off Effexor, I know the withdrawal symptoms can be horrendous? I sure hope you get this and respond. Cheers, Mary.

This is my ninth day on the HCG drops, and I have lost 16.2 pounds. I got in the bath this morning, and when I stood up to wash my hair in the shower, I felt a wave of dizziness. I crouched down and it subsided a bit, but the minute I stood back up an overwhelming wave of dizziness and fuzziness came over me, and I climbed out of the bathtub and sat on the seat of the toilet. I grabbed my towel and realized quickly that I was about to black out. I crawled to the kitchen to get the sugar because I remembered reading in Dr. Simeon's "Pounds and Inches" that low blood sugar could occur toward the end of treatment. He described the symptoms, and they seemed right on. I had to climb up with my arms to reach the sugar because my legs would not hold me. I reached the sugar but collapsed on the floor before I could take it. I was lying naked on the kitchen floor with the absolute knowledge that I was blacking out. I finally made myself open my eyes and grab the sugar on the floor beside me, which I dumped into my mouth. The symptoms began to subside immediately, although it took several hours, a sirloin steak, a couple of bites of bread, another teaspoon of white sugar under the tongue, a "b" complex, a "c", and a magnesium supplement (taken because I was struck by major cramps the moment I swallowed the sugar on the floor... the cramps resembled the highest level of awful cramps I get when I have my period, and they ended about ten minutes after they began, while the dizziness was still receding) before I returned to close to normal.
All of the research I have done says that this is due to a fall in glucose because my blood is full of fatty acids released because of the hcg. However, other research I read said that this type of episode is considered hypoglycemic shock; and, if I wouldn't have gotten to the sugar before passing out, I most likely could have ended up with brain damage or dead (since I live alone and there would have been no one to find me there and get me medical attention.)
Has anyone else experienced this dip in glucose? I have never had issues with this before, although I do typically have low blood pressure and a low resting heart rate. I am wondering if I should just eat normally for a few days or if I should proceed with the vlcd.

I have lost 5.5 lbs. in 4 days so far... I am only 4 days in. No, you cannot just use the drops alone.... they will do nothing. HCG is a hormone released by pregnant women to turn fat into usable nutrients. The HCG plan is very strict, and it works when followed exactly. The HCG floods your system with the fat that is being turned into nutrients... so you are not hungry. It takes a few days to get used to the strictness of the food choices, but once you have it down, it works well. The hormone free version is just vitamins... there is no HCG in it. The HCG is what does the trick.... not just vitamins in a solution. The Homeopathic drops are a diluted form of HCG... the real HCG diet uses real hormone that you inject into yourself with a needle and syringe.

Yes, anyone can lose weight on a 500 calorie a day diet... this is true. what makes this different is that your hunger level is not high, and this allows you to stay on the plan. But, it is a v-e-r-y strict plan, so if you are not willing to do it as directed without cheating for either 23 or 43 days, then choose another way to lose weight.

If you are serious about losing weight, then take the time to educate yourself about all of the different ways there are out there, and choose the one that you know you can do and stick with... this will ensure your success.

I can send a link to you for trusted company which I use before...

Good luck..

Had a bad experience with hcg. I lost 28 lbs mostly muscle and water and as it came back as it has to if you ever eat more than 1000 calories it all came back as pure fat. Now my percentage of body fat is 45% instead of the 36% it was before I began two years ago, and I weigh exactly what I did two years ago. Only now it's a lot more fat and I have cellulite for the first time in my life. It's your decision but if I had read a post like this first I would have tried a more sensible plan. That's what I'm doing now. I exercise 3-4x week and eat about 1500 calories a day. I've lost 4 lbs in the last 3 weeks and I look healthy.

I just started and got injections from my doctor--he said that it was the best way to begin as it is a hormone so he wanted to monitor it ???? 200.00 for the 20 day protocol but then I thought I would try ordering online--if it works.

Good Luck

hi everyone.

Im on day 1 -of gorging. I feel awful. My stomach is upset and im bloated. (i had 2 burgers, 5 chicken nuggets, fries and a soda)and its all i had to eat today. I found this website trying to find more information on the drops i bought. It is a hormone free hcg with african mango- I wont say the brand bc i dont want to get in trouble. I hope this stuff works, My email is sevenxashes@gmail.com if you want to let me know that I didn't waste my money :)

It came with a business card that sent me to a link that sent me to a e-book which i printed. It seems to contradict what others are having for their diet. Can some one please post what you eat each day? Also, I came here looking for the answer regarding make-up. Does it really make a difference? Please be honest. I'm a waitress and I suffer from cystic acne. I wear make up to feel more confident and be able to approach the guests who eat at the resturant. Its just how I am, I'm very self conscious. On that subject, did this HCG cause any one here to break out?

So in a nutshell:

1. whats the real diet on this program?
2. Can I wear make-up?
3.Will Hcg cause my cystic acne to get worse or flare up? I appreciate your feedback and look forward to finding support here on this weight loss journey! Thanks for reading :) Rachel

Hi,

I am 38 and have 4 children and have always lost weight rather easy until about 6 months ago. I started my first injection today and am on the load day 1. I thought I would chronicle my journey so that others know what to expect. I will say that I plan on following the plan to a T so if you follow you will not see any deviations.

Starting weight is 139.9

I am using a doctor and did not order online.

I am staying on my medication of Cymbalta and adderoll and using the oil free face products and body products just to avoid any messing up of the program.
