I like the idea of all these challenges, what a great idea.  I finally feel brave enough to publicly challenge myself, so here goes...

I am challenging myself to lose 9 pounds by September 1st.  That's about 9&1/2 weeks away.  It is a good goal for me because school starts here the last week of August.  September therefore always seems like Fall to me and so it symbolizes the changing of seasons.

I realize everyone is doing the 4th of July challenge, but that is just next week and too late for me to join.  Maybe there will be some who would like to continue with the challenge after July 4th has passed.

Also, if anyone would like to list a tip of what has been helpful to them, when they post, I think that would make it interesting.

I do hope that all feel welcome to join in my summer challenge and post their goals and track their progress.

I weighed 146.0 this morning.  If I make my goal of 9 pounds by Sept 1st , that will put me at 137 lbs.

Hey, does anyone know if losing weight also gets rid of cellulite?

Great!  Thank you!  Now I've got company!  I won't feel alone.  That will be good, I love reading the other challenges and all this time have felt envious of the people brave enough to join them.

I'm actually really excited!

I'll do it Sas!

I weigh 174 as of this week. You said it's about 9.5 weeks? I want to be in the 150s again, so I'll say 17 lbs... That'll put me at 157, which will be my BIG HAIRY GOAL, and my minimum would be 15 lbs which would put me at 159, which I'll take, but will strive for the former.

It's officially in writing- 157 by September 1st!

I'll join in again!   Haven't done very good with all the wedding activities, the time at the lake last weekend, and now the next 2 weekends on vacation.   I don't hold out much hope for even being down for the 4th of July Challenge.

So, I will post my starting weight, after I weigh in on Friday.   Then I will set my goal as well.   I will need something to get me back on track after 9 days of vacation eating!

Welcome everyone!  Best of luck to all who want to join and challenge themselves!

Sure, I think checking in every week or two would be good, whatever works for you.

I wish I had some prizes to hand out, that would be so fun.

I ate a huge salad the other day while my 17 yr old son watched.  It was really enormous (recommended eating from Eat To Live) and my jaw was getting tired of all the chewing (I am so use to junk food) and I told my son, "I should get a prize if I eat all this salad."  He was rather amused with my salad portion and he says, "I will make you a salad for your prize."

Then he seems to feel some sympathy and says, "What do you want?"

"I just want a pat on the back.  Don't do it now though, I have a sunburn."

I ended up without a prize of course.  That's why I wish I could hand them out, it would make all of us feel so good to know we accomplished something.

aaaww, thank you semi!  You don't know how much that means to me!  Really, you brought tears to my eyes.  I feel so much better now!  And you were really careful of my sunburn too, I appreciate that.  You are such a good friend!  I'm going to buy you a cup of coffee one of these days.:coffee:

mmmmmm.... coffee!

I hope we do meet someday Sas, that would be so fun! Maybe we should get into the money saving challenge and save up for some great spa where they make you eat arugla with lemon wedges 3X a day, but then treat you to massages, mud baths, pedicures, and other things. We could hang out with Valerie Bertanelli and Kirstie Alley! They'll probably be there! Hmmm... maybe they're HERE! Mamma Bear, are you really Kirstie Alley?

If the sunburn gets to be too much, take aspirin. It will reduce the swelling caused by the inflamed skin and make it a little better. There's a theory about tea bags in the bath too, but my mother always told me food doesn't belong in the bathroom, so I can't even get my mind around mango body wash!

Cheers!

You most certainly can join Krissy!  Everyone is welcome!  I will probably wait to make our little list of names and starting weights until after the 4th when most people will have posted them.  I've never done this before so please don't yell at me, if I mess up.

Hello, Sassykat!  I would like to join as well.  The 4th of July challenge was already underway by the time I found this site.  So this can be my first challenge.  I'll have my starting weight be what it was when I weighed on Monday at 241 lbs.  I'll set a goal weight of 14 lbs. gone by September 1st, which would put me at 227 lbs.

Good luck, everyone!  :clover:

Hey, I would love to join a challenge, this would be my first, I've always been afraid to because I could never lose weight consistantly, I'm 225 as of today and I'll set a goal of 10 pounds for myself, I think that's do able.

I'm afraid too, Onceupon-a-thin-girl, and I may be posting gains instead of losses (especially with the treats I've eaten today!), but if the motivation gets us to eat healthier and exercise more, it's worth it don't you think?

Anyway we're all in the same boat together and I don't believe we are here to judge each other.  We are here to support each other.

I am really glad you are joining.  I shall add you to the list right now!

Hi Sassy,

Thank you for taking on and starting a new challenge.  I am glad that we have another one to go for. I am starting at 209lbs and would like to be down 18lbs by Sept 1.  That would put me at 191lbs, wow to be in Onederland, haven't done that in years.............but, I just can't keep carrying around all of this weight.

Sassykat,

Thanks so much for starting this challenge. They've been a great success, and June was the busiest month for the forum ever.

Let's see now, we've had:

Patchers' Easter 2007 Weight Loss Challenge
soontobeme's Memorial Day 2007 Weight Loss Challenge
SmallerMe's What's In Your Piggy Bank? $$
4th of July 2007 Weight Loss Challenge by Aimless

And now this!

Thanks so much to Sassykat, Patchers, soontobeme, SmallerMe and morbidlemom (that's morbid lemon!).

P.S.

Ref your question about Cellulite, it's addressed in the Tutorial.

This is such a great idea Sas- way to keep it going! You and Aimless are very magnanimous for doing this!

Cheers and good luck everyone!

Hello Everyone,

I just found this site today when i was looking for a place to help me with how many calories i was burning an hour running. I'm very impressed by this site.

I would love to join your challenge. I'll tell you a bit about me. I'm 41..5'2 and weigh 133 as of this morning. Three and a half years ago i weighed 220..i was down to 121 last summer but since Halloween i've been going up and down from 128-135. I know it's from all the candy i so love to eat but i've taken it all out of the house as of last week. So i'm on the right track now...lol

See working out isn't the problem...i love to do that...crazy i know...it's my eating that i have to get under control. So now i eat 6 meals a day spaced 2.5 to 3 hours apart..this helps me not to over eat and i drink about 150 ozs of water a day.

For the challenge i'd love to get down to 123..so that would be 10 pounds for me..

I look foward to getting to know everyone.

Have a wonderful day..

A very big WELCOME to Caloriesperhour, Vanessa40!

I am so excited we are getting more recruits for our challenge (and recruits to this forum!  That is so awesome!)!  Hooray!

I am really impressed and excited with how motivated and excited everyone is!  This is great!  Maybe with our combined enthusiasm, it will speed our metabolism a notch and contribute to our success.

We should all be proud we are putting forth our efforts in doing something positive.  We are working on our health, which in turn offers benefits to our family, friends and society.  We are tough!  We are determined!  We can do this!

Healthy eating and exercise wishes to all!  And if you can't make your goals for the day, forgive yourself, and get right back on your path.  If I were to make one rule for this challenge (and I don't believe I have the authority to make rules on this web site:grin:) It would be that there is to be no beating oneself up over treats or down days of no exercise.  There is nothing productive in feeling bad.  If anything, let it be a moment to learn and refocus on the prize of good health.:ribbon:

My starting weight for this challenge is my ending weight for the 4th of July Challenge - 235 pounds.

This one will be truly a challenge because I am going to visit my hubby next weekend, and my husband will be home about 3 weeks before the ending date, and I will have to try and maintain the good habits I've been working on building once he's back.

With all of that in mind, I'm going to aim for a relatively modest 7 pound loss.. goal weight 228 pounds.

Thank you for running this challenge, Sassykat!

It's never too late to join!  Welcome luv2teach!  Thank *You* for being our new recruit!

For anyone wanting to post an update on their weight, I will post a new list on Friday or Monday.  Of course, there are many (I should say most) who are just joining and posting their starting weights.  Whoever does not post a weight change, I will be posting their starting weight.  I hope this is not too confusing.  I am still trying to organize in my mind how to do this.  Hope you don't mind Aimless if I copy cat your format!  You did such a good job on the 4th of July challenge!

What a great reason to drop out of the challenge, have a wonderful time and good health to you and the baby.

HI Sassy Kat,

I am still at 209 as of Wed. July 4th, will weigh again on Sunday.  That is usually my official weigh in day, so I may be a little bit behind for your schedule.

Krissy congrats!!! My starting weight is 170! Thanks sassy!

I had my first challenge last night! I actually went to go see Transformers last night and ate WAY to much candy!! haha. My boyfriend and I went out to dinner and I ordered a salad and had a few bites of his steak and potatoes versus ordering my own--I found this very helpful! Then, we arrived at the movies and Tim bought me nachos and reese pieces--my favorite!! I would say I ate 1500 calories over my daily caloric intake....but I did workout yesterday which helps!!
I overloaded the sugar that I literally fell asleep during the movie...my body was not used to that much sugar! Plus, I felt like #%@&! when I got home. I learned my lesson on that one.

So, I am going to be strict the rest of this week....my goal was to lose at least a pound this week:) but I do not know if that will happen....

Ok, I'm in. SW 55.21 kg, GW 53.71 kg [1.5 kg to lose]

I'm using my last weigh-in for the 4th of July challenge here. I can already tell I'm having movement in the wrong direction in this first week, but it isn't September yet, so there's everything to play for.

In fact, I'm planning to start this challenge with a short re-feed period to boost my metabolism before going for fat loss.

Congratulations Krissy!  That is wonderful news, I am so happy for you!  I love being a mom and have 5 myself (2 of them are twins).  I hope you come back and let us know when your baby is born and his or her name etc.  Be sure to take extra special care of yourself!  We'll be thinking of you.

Also, Peter, I agree with soontobeme, thank you for the recognition.  It feels so good to be appreciated.  And I do appreciate your hard work and devotion to this web site.  It was a great idea to begin with and keeping it going must be a lot of work.

Welcome Nir!  Great to have you a long with us!

As far as the posting of weights, I have realized that everyone has a different day they are use to weighing in on and I seem to be just checking in whenever I get a chance (having 5 kids kind of affects my ability to schedule:grin:)  And Sept 1st falls on a Saturday so I guess I will tentatively try and repost lists on Mondays.  So, whenever a person wants to post their weight, just go ahead and I will add it in as soon as I get the chance.  The most important thing is we get to share in our challenge and our experiences.

I loved hearing about your date, by the way luv2teach.  I haven't been on one of those in many moons.  (I should mention that little fact to my hubby)  I have noticed also that I get tired sometimes after eating.  I wouldn't be surprised if there were some kind of condition associated with that.  Interesting.

It looks like we got a great group of people on here, maybe we'll even get some more recruits!

We have 18 participants so far!  The more the merrier!

Hey everyone. .

I would also like to join the challenge. . .I will weigh in first thing tomorrow.  I also don't have problems with exercise--I am very active.  My eating habits, however, are atrocious!  Therefore, I think I will use this challenge to keep me on track.  Good tip with the six meals a day. . .I don't currently do this, but I've found a few things when I do stay on 5-6 meals:  1.) I don't get hungry.  2.) My energy stays up.   3.)  My snacks tend to consist of fruits, nuts and other healthy items rather than junk food.  BTW, how does this challenge work?  Do we just check in once a week and post our weights? I'm new to the discussion part of the site.  I've mostly used it for calorie counting.  Anyway, looking forward to a healthier me. . . :)

Welcome texashippo!  I am happy you are joining us!  Yeah, pretty much, you just post in your weight once a week, noting any weight loss or gain:smile:  It's nice to share our struggles and successes and anything of interest along the way.  I am new to this also!

I come from a junk food family and am trying to change my ways.

Good luck to you and let me know what your starting weight is and your goal weight, how much you plan on losing by Sept 1st.

Sometimes it's better to go with a slow loss of 1-2 pounds a week, or something you feel you can achieve, that way you don't get discouraged and the weight loss will more likely be permanent. (That's what I've been told)

That puts us up to 19 participants!  Yahoo!

Posting my weekly update!

STARTING: 143 pounds and 31-32% body fat

GOAL for 9/1: 135 pounds and 25-26% body fat

CURRENT: 142 pounds, 31% fat

Slow progress... too many splurges!  By the way SASSY, you don't have to track my body fat too if it doesn't fit with your format.  It can be just for my own reference.
Thanks again!

Trim B--are you located in the heart of Washington DC or on the outskirts? My friend lives just outside of Arlington--she just moved there from Ohio about a year ago. She really likes it. Have you always lived there?

Yeah, TrimB- same question! I'm in Dupont/AdamsMorgan area. Where are you? If you're in the neighborhood, send me a PM if you ever want to go have a salad!

And L2T, where in Ohio are you? My dad is in Upper Arlington (Columbus) and is originally from Logan. His girlfriend is from Wellston. Are you NSE or West? I'm not familiar with your city name.

I've got to get weighed today, to bring the topic back to the topic. I realized yesterday (after 44 years:confused:), I have a cookie and cheese problem!
