What are peoples biggest fears about losing weight? What do you fear the most with regards to losing weight?

Since I have used my weight as a reason not to make too many friends or socialize, I fear that once I have lost the weight, I will still be that fat girl who is too scared to put herself out there. Unfortunately, I was not the big girl with a big, bubbly personality. I was the shy, don't talk to me, big girl.  (It's so easy to sound happy when posting on forums. Maybe eventually I can be what I write!)

However, knowing this is a fear of mine, I am working hard to overcome it. I decided that my journey is just about weight loss but self discovery. I am getting involved with projects and hobbies, so I can feel less boring!

I'm afraid to check the scale. I know that muscle weighs more than fat and weight can differ by several pounds from day to day but I don't want to check and disappoint myself when I feel I'm doing so well.

@steam - don't weigh in as frequently.  Weigh in the same time of day (morning) before you've eaten anything.  Weight can definitely shift from day to day (I've noticed 10 pounds in 1 day before), but early morning weigh ins are probably one of the best consistent readings.  Just don't have a massive meal for dinner the night before as that can throw the scale off.

My biggest fear is ending up "skinny fat". I'd rather be a chunk than look like a bean pole, so weight training is a huge part of my regimen. Now don't get me wrong, I don't want to look like a bodybuilder but rather a nice athletic build.

I've quickly found that fat comes off much faster than muscles grow so in a few months I will be doing what most people on this board DO NOT want to do (gain weight).

yea man, without juice, muscle "building" is a very slow process and fat does come off a lot faster. Unless you have a lot of muscle from previous years of lifting, or just blessed genetically, odds are you'll have to get a lot leaner/lighter to get that look.

The daily scale fluctuations can be killer sometimes.  I've never had a 10 pound fluctuation like granger, think I'd pass out if I saw that, but 5-6 pounds isn't unusual for me.  Many females will see an increase during TTOM too.

Weighing in daily can be disastrous!  Sometimes even weekly.  You can bust your butt all week in diet and exercise and then have a dinner party the night before your weigh in and you go a bit overboard and bloat up.  you have your weekly weigh in the next day and you lost no weight!  When in reality, you were down 3-4 pounds the morning before.  It definitely plays mind tricks.  Stick to judging yourself and your progress by the mirror and the way your clothes fit if mind games become an issue.  The scale should be our friend, but it often can be our worst enemy.

1.) I've used my weight to put my life on hold for a long time, and I'm getting closer to the time when I can't use it as an excuse anymore not to move forward with starting a new career, and potentially having children.

2.) I'm very thankful that I have people in my life that have been there for me at my highest weight, because people starting to treat me differently is messing me up. If anything, it's making me more sympathetic to fat acceptance because how someone treats a stranger should have nothing to do with how sexually attractive they are. I actually am starting to miss the invisibility that I used to have as a fat person.I'm really glad it's getting to be cold so I can spend the next few months in layers of bulky clothes while I figure this out.
