It's almost time for the next challenge, everyone!
Here are the guidelines for the New Year New You weight loss challenge (similar to those of the previous ones):
1. The challenge will run from Saturday January 1st through Monday February 28th
2. You may join the challenge at any time beginning January 1st, and late-comers are most welcome. You can even join the challenge in February. To join the challenge, post your height, starting weight and goal weight.
You may choose any goal you like. But if your goal is to lose more than 17 pounds during the challenge period -- more than two pounds a week -- please explain why you think your goal is realistic.
This website is dedicate to healthy, common sense, lasting weight loss, and does not support crash diets which do not have realistic expectations of producing long-term results.
For more information, please see the Tutorial ( http://www.caloriesperhour.com/tutorial.php ) and the forum topic The Most Likely Reason Your Diet Will Fail ( http://www.caloriesperhour.com/forums/forum46/5491.html ).
Your height will be used to display your BMI. Disclosing your height is optional but as incentive to share your height with us, unless told your height I'll just assume you are 5' (1.52m).
3. Pick a day for your weekly weigh-in, and stick to it a closely as you can. Then post your current weight each week -- or as often as you would like!
You may wish to read: How Often Should You Weigh Yourself ( http://www.caloriesperhour.com/forums/forum46/5625.html )
4. Those who are not losing weight, and those who are gaining, will receive praise
for continuing to participate. It's so easy to run and hide! We've all been there ourselves.
We also know that by participating, they are very likely doing better than they otherwise would be.
5. The results will be updated every Friday (or more often) and posted right here just below these instructions, so they will always be easy to find.
We want the challenge stats to be realistic and reflect active challenge members, so anyone not posting for two consecutive weeks will be dropped from the list. But they will be put right back on the next week should they post again.
If you need to withdraw from the challenge, please have the courtesy to post a farewell note or send me a Private Message (PM). Your name will be removed.
6. You are encouraged to share how you are doing during the challenge, and especially to give each other support. However, to make it easier for me to find your weekly weight, please make sure your weight stands out.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to post them or send me a PM.
Wishing you success and happiness!
Nir

GW 54.60kg (120.3lb)
Weigh-in on Mondays
From today and for this challenge I'll be eating 2,400 calories and provisonally be aiming to lose 1lb during the 2 month period. The key thing would be that will not tolerate any loss of strength at the gym either in terms of weights used or energy for my CV workouts, in fact I'll still be hoping for strength to be moving in the right direction - but I'd be hoping for a bit of re-composition and for overall weight to stabalise i.e. for a minor amount of fat to be chizelled away.

I didn't do great on the last challenge but I was held accountable for my actions. I always need more structure and boundaries. One of my NYResolutions is to have a more detailed food journal listing the time, food eaten, and the amount. These two things can hopefully help me lose 11.4 pounds. Right now I'm full of fries and coffee, I should wake up in the high 140s which will give me a better starting weight.

I can't make a good estimate as to how much I'm expecting to lose in the next two months. I'm just going to choose 10 pounds to lose as my goal this time and see what happens.

CW 55.23 (121.7lb)
SW 55.05 (121.3lb) gain of 0.18kg (0.40lb) so far - movement in the 'wrong' direction which I put down to random weight fluctuation which will soon correct itself.

I started out my New Years Resolve with a 36 hour fast. Nothing but water. I did this for many reasons:
- New Years Eve- I ate everything I ever wanted to eat the entire day. I had fast food, pizza, ben&jerry's, etc. etc. etc. Weigh-in Jan. 1st morning was 221.4 (which I knew was probably a bit exaggerated due to the previous binge.
- I figured a fast would shrink my stomach, in order to make my portion control easier for the diet to come...
- Also, it would make me appreciate the taste of nearly anything...no matter how healthy.
- It showed me that I can survive without eating.
Its funny, but after the fast, I almost felt guilty about starting to eat again. I actually thought, how am I going to fit in 1700 calories? Before, 1700 came and went in a blink of an eye.
I know that a good portion of the weight dropped may be water weight, however it sure feels good. This is the kickstart to my New Years Resolve that I needed. Its hard to believe that after only 2 days, my clothes fit noticeably better.

I had the same plan for NYE but I didn't get the mcdonald's I wanted, I ran out of cash :x Ate everything in the house instead. The day before I tried to fast for 24 hours because I reasoned "If you can go 24 hours, you don't need to eat every 40 minutes, Ash!" I only lasted 19 1/2, meh.
Todayyy, my first weigh-in: 146.2, loss of 5 pounds. I was reeeeally full of food when I posted that starting weight, like I said

Just a little Yeah for me....for the moment. :) I have gone to the gym 3 times this year. Once every day. Plus we went for a hike this afternoon. I weighed myself this morning...184. I so wish this was the official weigh in day. LOL Hopefully Friday will show some similar results. Bummer is that I did eat a Dairy Queen cheeseburger and onion rings.
Here is a photo of all 3 of us being active. :) THanks again everyone for being here...this is definitely helping.

CW (as of this morning) - 152.5
Goal Weight - 147.5 (a loss of 5 pounds)
I'm not as concerned with weight loss, but more defining my six pack and to do this I know I have the last few pounds of stubborn fat/water to lose on my stomach. Not sure I'll be able to do it in 2 months, but I'll be pumped if I can. Looking forward to watching everyone's progress

Ok.....I am going to give this a try one more time. Usually every time I do one of these I end up gaining weight and get very discourage. So, here goes nothing...lol
Starting weight 152lbs. - That was late in the day on the wii fit. So, who knows how accurate that is.
Goal weight will be should be like around 145lbs. But, that don't seem like much. So, lets make it 142lbs.
My height is 5'4
My weigh in day will be Monday!

I still had far too much food and drink left over from the holidays and I have never been able to throw good (or bad!) food away .... So, no loss, but at least no gain either.

Will try harder next week ...

Thank you. I agree...it is nice to learn a bit more about each other...makes it a nice support group too. This has definitely been helping me. I have moved from Athens, GA recently to South Georgia for my husband's job...he graduated graduate school last year and has a temporary teaching position. SO we don't know a lot of people in this area. I am trying to get a bunch of my friends from Athens and Washington State to join on here.

224lbs Feels good to be back in the saddle Why oh why do I go on these binges during the winter. 3 months go by in a blur and I end up 28lb heavier and think how did that happen. Depression I think is the answer and I feel posotive looking ahead to a new year.
Good luck all.

Hi Everyone,
I am down a bit....that exercising must be helping. Plus, even though I am eating chocolate I am not going over my overall calories. I so wish I could replace the chocolate with healthier fare.
I am at 182 this morning. :)

Bamagirly--you are so right....it never does .
CW 174.5 4.3 .
I am happy with that but I also know that is just week one, long way to go and I probably won't see much more than 1 to 1.5 pounds for the rest of the way but at least it's a start.

CW 55.78 (122.9lb)
LW 55.23 (121.7lb) this week a gain of 0.55kg (1.21lb)
SW 55.05 (121.3lb) for a challenge a gain of 0.73kg (1.61lb)
I wanted loss or at the very least maintenance. So despite lowering counted calories from 2,500 to 2,400 I am gaining weight at an accelerated rate (as compared to the averaged 0.25lb/week gain for the previous 10 weeks). If this gain trend continues for the month of January then I will reduce caloris to 2,300 for February but for the moment am still holding tight.

Hi Nir,
Once again thanks for all the work involved in keeping the charts up to speed. I'm sorry my computer doesn't allow me to do bold or increase here at CpH. I also forgot to say I'll weigh in on a Monday.
I started at 169 (not 168) and am now 166 so that's a loss of 3lb.
Well done everyone who reached their goals this week and to everyone who is hanging in there if they didn't.

Ok, weigh in for me this morning is 148lbs. Which is a big drop from my start weight. But, I don't think that weigh in was all that accurate. I normally stay right around 147lbs. So, for me this means I am up a pound. So, goal for this next week will be to get under that.
