Hello all,
This is Myiesha and this is my first journal post. Today was my lapband surgery date. I had to be at the hospital at 6 am and my surgery was at 730 am. The surgery didn't take long at all. My husband, who had the same surgery 2 years ago, said that when the surgeon came out to talk to him he thought he was going to tell him that I was pregnant and he couldn't perform the operation. The surgeon came out to talk to him at 810 am. The means that my surgery took only 30 minutes . I must say that this has been an interesting process. I have not enjoyed the pre-op diet so the next two days could be rough.
Well let me give you some background information about me. I am 24 years old and I have been "heavy" for as long as I can remember. My starting weight for surgery was 262, but my top weight has been 275. I would like to get down 100 lbs depending on how my body frame and structure look. They told us not to aim for a size, but to have a goal. My goal is to be a healthy mother, wife, and singer. I am married to a wonderful man, my angel on earth. He's supportive of me in every possible way. When he had his surgery, he started at 375 and is now down 120 plus lbs. Once I saw how he changed and was better able to do the simple things in life, I began to pray and ask God to help me to do the same. I began working out at Curves and following the weight management diet. I also went to our general physician and started taking penteramine (sp?). At most I lost 15 lbs over the course of a year. I was not happy with the results and began talking to my general physician about other weight loss options. He suggested the lap band because my BMI was 44.9 and I'm only 5' 5 1/2". That was July of 2010. August 2010 started my weigh-ins. February 2011 was my last weigh in and the rest kind of fell in place.
All in all my goals are to be able to do housework without getting winded and being extremely tired within 30 minutes, to be able to run around with my puppy, Charlie, and my future children (we want 4 of them), and to be free of my knee problems. This surgery is the first one that I have ever had and I don't want to ever have another one. I had struggled with low self-esteem and low self-confidence for about 10 years both in my house and in school. As a free adult and believer, I have and am being delivered from those issues. I am learning who I am in God and that makes my life well worth living. This surgery and the weight loss means so much to me. I believe that my outside will finally match my inside...I will finally see in the mirror what I see in my head.

Post Op Day 1
Hello everyone,
New day, new pain. My throat hurts today as well as the port incision. I am trying to get off my pain meds as quickly as possible so I feel more pain than may be totally necessary . No pain, no gain !!! My husband and I took Charlie walking this morning and I had to take some meds after that. We are headed to the store soon for a very short trip and a second walk. Charlie is asleep on my leg away from my stomach. He's been trying to get up here all day...
I found out that I can not chew gum anymore. Well I've decided that it is better that I not chew gum anymore. I had my first piece since the night before surgery and I SWALLOWED IT!....no more gum for me. My stomach is too small to swallow gum. I don't know what the consequences are for swallowing gum, but I can only imagine. I'm only allowed clear liquids right now and having gum lodged in my band is not something that I want.

Post-Op Day 2
I started my full liquids today....technically a day early. I did ok. I had some cream of chicken soup at about 330 and a little yogurt around 7. My chest hurts right now, been sipping on apple juice and water. Trying not to overdo it...not really sure what has my chest hurting just yet. Finally started passing gas today....from the back end *hee hee*, before that I was just burping sporadically. Walking around hasn't seemed to help much but my husband thinks so. I can't wait to get passed this stage..the gas pains and soreness.
I also had a crown done today IDK why but I did. I was going to have two done but this one was so difficult to do that it took 2 1/2 hours to complete and we decided to end with the one!!
Today has been a busy day, but I think I did fairly well. Now I am about to do a trial makeup run on my little sister for her prom this Friday.

Post-Op Week 2 (3/4)
Well snail....that's how these two weeks have felt. Time seems to go sooooooooooooooooooooo slowly. I have had to deal with my addiction to food and my difficulty to discipline my eating habits. I have only lost 12 lbs, BUT I have lost several inches. Enough to purchase 2 size 18 pants. That's a size smaller than I was wearing and I am wearing my mothers pants now....and they are a 16!!!!
Although I have not seen a change in my appearance, several people have mentioned it and the smaller pants are evidence of some weight loss. Hopefully, I will see what others are seeing and appreciate it in me.

Went to the see my surgeon yesterday. My BMI is down to 39 (it was 44.9 last July) and I am down 30.5 lbs from my top weight and down 17.5 lbs from my start weight before surgery. I am really excited. These three days of clear liquids were TOUGH!!! I didn't think I was going to make it at one point. Whoooo, only by the grace of God....and a few carbs at the end of day 3 lol!!!
On another note, when I got to my surgeons office, I had a concern about my port sticking up. My husband also had the lap band surgery but we have two different bands. He has the Realize band and I have the Lap-Band. I would always compare our bands and his port was flatter than mine. Well needless to say that when I got to the doctor's and laid down on the table, his eyes bugged out and he said, "Gosh, your port sure does stick up a whole bunch!!" Luckily, he believed that filling it would make the port lay flat like it was intended. So far it has and I am HAPPY!! He said that if it didn't he'd want to go back in and tack it back down into place..... definitely do not want to have another surgery.
Well until next time.....much love to you and yours!!!

Wow. That is incredible weight loss. I am glad to hear that both you and your husband are changing your lives together. I don't know much about the band you speak of but you can bet that I am going to educate myself on it LOL. Hope to hear a lot more good updates :D.

| This is so amazing, I know what you must be feeling, because I went through it on November 2010. This is the best decision I've ever made. Initial weight before surgery was 383 now 6 months later I'm down to 323.
