Yum!! My apples came out great!! Although I did have to microwave them a bit longer than the 2 minutes it said in the recipe.

Here is the recipe:

You need: 2 apples, Splenda, cinnamon, a knife, a bowl

Peel and remove the core from the apples, slice them up. Put apple slices in a bowl, add some Splenda (I used 1.5 packets) and a little cinnamon, mix it together. Put in microwave on high for 6 minutes, stirring halfway (okay maybe you don't have to stir them, but I just had to peek!!)

I also covered it with a paper towel just to be safe.

For anyone who is having trouble with fruit day, getting headache, getting hungry sooner than 2 1/2 hours, I have found this schedule to work for me.
I have fruit for my first meal. I have my sandwich for my second meal. Tomato soup for my 3 meal and an apple or bake a fruit combo for my last meal. I leave 2 1/2 hrs. between first and second meal, but I find I can go longer after my sandwich.  With my soup and my last meal 2 1/2 hrs. Hope this helps.

Recipe for sandwich is below. On the meat lovers plan you have to select it as one of your options and it only comes up the once on fruit day.  Next time you generate your plan have look it might be there. If not I think it would be fine for you to substitute one of your fruit meal for the sandwich.

Cheers

Joanne

DELI MEAT SANDWICH.

This Sandwich must be made from the below ingredients only:

·  2 Pieces of bread This means REGULAR-sized sandwich bread (normal sliced bread).

·  Any deli style MEAT (such as roast beef, ham, pastrami, turkey, or any other deli meat).

·  Lettuce, Tomatoes, and Onions are OPTIONAL

*You don't have to use these condiments, they are optional.

Hi....been on and had a look, no deli sandwich option in the vegetarian menu. Maybe I could make one with soy chicken and beef instead of the meat...surely it will have same effect?

Thanks for your help

You are right, there is no sandwich option on the vegetarian menu. My first go at this I was eating lacto/ovo vegetarian and I found it more livable to use the non-veg diet generator and just not choose any meats or fish. I still chose the sandwich but used egg salad with very little light mayo in place of deli meat. The only reason I can imagine that there is no sandwich option on the vegetarian menu is because we tend to eat carb/protein based foods already- since there are very few vegetarin sources of pure protein- and perhaps the added starch would be problematic?? Of course, you can always just try it and see whether or not adding the sandwich will affect your weight loss.

TURN YOUR WINE INTO SANGRIA

I used this to help me get through Fruit Day:

Pour your wine into an extra-large wineglass or a tumbler. Add ice.

Squeeze in the juice of half an orange, quarter of a lime and quarter of a lemon. Drop the squeezed fruit husks into the glass.  You can also add the juice and pulp of fresh peaches, cherries, and strawberries.

Add a generous splash of sugar-free lemon-lime soda. Stir and enjoy!!

Hi dominoegirl!  It's great to see you. How have things been?  Actually, watermelon is not allowed on fruit day, probably because it is high on the glycemic index.  For weight loss, you want to stay away from high GI foods.

Is it ok to eat until full on fruit day? Except for the sandwich, of course?

Filling up on fruit sounds pretty sickening--I'm not sure if that's better or worse than being hungry.

Rachee - Hopefuly you read the responses to your soup question in the general discussion thread.  Like I mentioned, fresh made is best (healthwise and weight loss wise), but the canned/boxed are ok in a pinch.  I would just watch the sodium and sugar contents.  Remember, the diet doesn't really specify tomato soup as "allowed".  We rationalize it, as tomatoes are technically fruit, and also allowed in salsa on most meals.  So if you are going to have tomato soup on fruit day, I would limit it to one meal.  That's my two cents.

Missy - I don't think it is possible to get full on fruit! Seriously, though, fruit does not keep me satisfied at all, so even if I ate until I thought I was full, I would be hungry an hour or so later.  So I think it is better to stick with eating until satisfied and drinking lots of water in between, as there is no sense in adding the extra carbs.  That is my theory, anyways.  If you are hungry later, then go ahead and snack on another peice of fruit.  I think some people "graze" on fruit day, but I have always tried to stick to the 4 meals and since I don't really like fruit all that much (except in smoothies and the like) I just eat a small amount and pray that the next 3 hours go fast to continue on.  See what works best for you and how your results are.  If you eat more than normal and you don't have a decent loss, then next cycle you will know to eat less.  A lot is trial and error when first starting.

Bugger!  I just bought half a watermelon as I was sure I'd be able to eat it tomorrow on my fruit day

Oh well, with a little effort I know have a new diet with Fruit Salad on day 1 and the same foods I've already eaten this morning, so I'll be eating watermelon as a dessert today :yum:

Low GI fruits are:

Cherries
22

Plums
24

Grapefruit
25

Peaches
28

Peach, canned in natural juice
30

Apples
34

Pears
41

Dried Apricots
32

Grapes
43

Coconut
45

Coconut Milk
41

Kiwi Fruit
47

Oranges
40

Strawberries
40

Prunes
29

So can we eat cherrys and coconut on the Fruit day?  I avoided coconut as I was sure it would not be allowed, just shows how wrong you can be!  Watermelon - no, Coconut - yes (well maybe??)

I got the list from this website, if you're interested

Hi! My first post. I was on a road trip 2 weeks ago and family gave me a baggie full of watermelon, honeydew and cantaloupe to take along. I'm diabetic and normally if I eat X amount of fruit, I take X amount of insulin to cover it. I took the normal amount of insulin needed for the volume I ate and about an hour later noticed I was feeling extremely tired. So I checked my blood sugar and it was almost 500!!!! Normal is closer to 100 and that's what I usually have when I take the usual amount of insulin for most fruits. So I'm guessing the GI is really high on melon-type fruits, more so than the weight/volume would suggest.

Welcome Platelicker (like the name!)

You're absolutely right - Watermelon is in the High GI category; higher than table sugar!!

My mother is diabetic and she was told by her doctor to add protein if she wanted to eat a high glycemic fruit - i.e., cottage cheese or a piece of cheese with the fruit.  It counteracts some of the effect.

Welcome Platelicker...that is really good to know!  I have been eating a lot of watermelon this week...as you know melons are BIG...even the little ones...and spoil quickly.  They are a treat but I will be more aware now!  Thanks for sharing!

Thanks! I'm starting the diet in about a week. Will take me that long to get in all the different foods! lol Nice thing about summertime - almost all the fruits are available and fresh. Just wish melons were on that list too. Love them dearly.:yum:

I have one question.

The diet says you can eat as much as you want as long as yo're not too full.

My question is, if I finish my sandwich and I am still hungry may I eat another one as long as I am not too full?

MJay - I can't positively tell you yes or no. However, I would not eat another sandwich, to be safe.  One sandwich should be plenty.  I have never heard of anyone eating more than one.  Sometimes we mistake thirst or boredom for hunger, so please be sure you aren't just enjoying the sandwich so much that you WANT more.  I would make sure you put enough meat on your sandwich so the protein sustains you.  That is just my suggestion.  You can bring this up in the General Discussion thread and see what others may advise.  Best of luck to you.

Yes you should add more meat. Bread is a no no. Only have the 2 slices that were said in the diet. Meat you can add as much as you like, but eat until you are satisfied, not full! :D

Just finished Fruit Day. This is the 3rd time I've done Fruit Day. Yes, it sucks and I hate it but this is how I made it a little more bearable:

- Chop/Slice up your fruit and berries and put them on a plate for each meal. If you see the plate is full it tricks your mind that you're eating more. For example, if I just eat a large pear on the core, I think it's nothing. However, when I slice it up and put it on the plate it looks like a lot more than it is. I sliced up 2 oranges, 6 strawberries, a couple pears and it looked my plate was overflowing. Try it...you'll see

- Grill your sandwich and stuff it with the meat and veggies. I just used "I Can't Believe It's Not Butter" spray and it felt like I was eating a really delicious warm meal. Eating a cold sandwich isn't very satisfying after alot of cold fruit.

- Eat your sandwich as meal #3. It's going to be the point when you're most hungry.

- Plan to go to bed early. I knew my stomach may be grumbling if I stay up really late (past 10pm). So I decided to grab a book, play soft music and sleep early.

- DRINK LOTS OF WATER

I felt really refreshed and awesome the next day. I was also really proud of myself. Good luck!

Someone mentioned "grazing" on fruit day.  That's pretty much what I do - just munch on the fruit all day long.  I never feel overly hungry nor do I feel particularly satisfied either.  After the sandwich, I feel like a pig!    And I eat it as my 3rd meal of the day because it's true, that's when you are feeling the most hungry.

Yesterday was my 2nd fruit day to go through. At the beginning of the day I was miserable. I had breakfast then was hungry about an hour later. I waited, in hunger, to eat my lunch. By the time the afternoon came I was pretty satisfied. So satisfied I wasn't really hungry in the afternoon but I had some grapes then had my sandwich for dinner. It was nice. On my first fruit day I got through because I cut my sandwich in half and at one half for my 2nd meal and the other for my 4th meal. It worked!

pokesgirl22 - I am glad fruit day has worked out for you.  I would like to point out for other new members, that on fruit day, we should have 3 fruit meals and only 1 meal only with the sandwich, if we want the diet to work properly.  I just didn't want anyone to think it was ok to split the sandwich on fruit day and have half one meal and half another. That is not how the diet works :nono:

You cannot swap around foods from one meal to another.  You can only swap the order of the meals.

pokesgirl -  I'm not sure who would have written that, but I would have said something if I saw it.  Sorry for the confusion.  Some of the really old posts from a few years ago can be confusing for some as some people posted things that are not allowed.  There is an older version of FL4I that even allowed pasta, which was confusing to some who read it after the new version was released.  Some of the older recipes have not allowed items, and people posted them mainly for healthier "choice" day meals.  So it's better to stick with the newer posts from the last couple or so years, or just ask if you are unsure, so you don't mess up your cycle. Thanks for mentioning this, so we could clear that up, in case anyone else thought you could split the sandwich between 2 meals.  If that were the case, fruit day would be much easier! Unfortunately only one meal can be the sandwich.:crying::tongue:

Hi Everyone!

Well fruit day for me today! Just had a bowl full of strawberries and kiwi fruit... got tomato soup for lunch and I am holding out for my sandwich for dinner later as I will definately appreciate something to look forward to later on.. I thought I could toast the bread and pile it high with salad and a mixture of turkey slices... yum!

Does anyone know if running will screw up the diet? I know it recommends only walking but I am training to do a duathlon at the weekend..I am only doing really short distances but I registered to do this a long while ago.

So far - feelig great! Have a nice day everyone!

Hey pommychic, I'm new to on my 1st cycle day and day 8  I am doing max cardio 4 days a wk so far in 7 days cause I weighed myself this morning I have lost -8.6.  So according to me the walking compared to areboics.  Dosen't matter.  I would keep running.  It's proven it's good for you.  I know that they say it burns carbohydrates instead of fat, I don't know if I believe that part of the diet but I love the rest so far.  I can't really walk here unless I did a tape my sister has to walking but I hate those tapes.  So I do the Biggest loser with real people who have lost weight and are not super skinny.  I love it.  I love working out with people who aren't models.  I also want to be toned and a skinnier toned version of me not just a skinner version.  So that is one area I do I guess you could call it cheat because I work out to my tape instead of walk.  But it looks like it's working to me:grin:

Hi Radtech and welcome to the forum.  That is a difficult one as there is a lot of fruit and veg on this plan. A lot of members make the quick tomato soup for fruit day (recipe can be found on the recipe thread) as it is quite satisfying and helps us get through the day.  I have to admit I too hated fruit until I started on this plan but I got used to it and quite like it now.  I cut the fruit up into small chunks and mix together in a small bowl and add a tablespoon of fat free yoghurt or a 1/4 pint of sugar free jello.  Remember, it's only 3 meals of fruit on fruit day as you can have the sandwich for the 4th meal.  Best to have the sandwich for your dinner, normally the 3rd meal, because if you eat it too early you won't get through the day and will be starving by dinner time! Does your hubby like fruit smoothies? If so, he could mix the fruit together in a blender with some crushed ice and get the fruit down that way.  As for veggie day, there are a lot of tasty recipes in the recipe thread including veggie chilli, veggie curry, veggie soups etc and I am sure he will be able to find something there suitable and to his liking.  Remember you can have beans on veggie day which are very filling... they are ideal for bulking out veggie chilli, curries and soups.
If your hubby really can't tolerate fruit at all then he could try having another veggie day instead.
Just thought I'd mention, you'd be better off posting your questions on the general discussion thread as that is where we all 'hang out'.  They are a great bunch and very supportive so you'd get a much better response to any questions or concerns you may have about the plan.  FL4I is a great diet and gives excellent results if you follow it to the letter... I can attest to that as I lost over 60lbs in 5 months and have kept it off for almost 12 months!
I wish you and your hubby great success on your weight loss journey and hope to see you over on the general discussion thread soon

I will certainly join you all on the other thread- thank you so much for the advice- it sounds great! I will definitely try that!

I used this diet before and lost about 15 kilos- but due to health reasons i put most of it back on- i am better now and going for it again!
