Hi,
After reading the title, some of you will probably wonder what my problem is because not being hungry sounds good. But the thing is that since two days I have no appetit and I'm not even really hungry no matter what I do!! I've had 250 cals so far and only because I thought that I had to eat something and it's 4.40pm ! I'm trying to listen to my body but it seams like I could get away with 200cals a day which is 1000cals under my target. What should I do?? Do I really have to eat when I'm not hungry? And will my body go into starvation mood although I'm not starving myself?!? That's soo weird!! Actually I wouldn't mind if I didn't have to eat but this can't be healthy! Please, help me!!

There could be many reasons for not having an appetite. Personally, if I go for a long time with very few calories, I get beyond hungry and suddenly I don't have an appetite anymore. Maybe this is what is happening with you. Or, I know that at times when I am depressed or stressed out I have no appetite, so this could possibly be the case. Or it could be something medical, which a doctor could maybe diagnose. It's hard to tell.
Whatever is the cause, it is not healthy to eat that few of calories. Your body will go into starvation mode whether or not you are feeling the hunger signals. You won't be getting the proper nutrition your body needs with that little of food and your metabolism may slow down to accomodate it so it won't help with weight loss either. Please try to eat more calories. If you really can't get yourself to eat, then I would suggest seeing a doctor.
Best wishes!

| For the last weeks I had approx. 1200-1500 calories, so I definately wasn't starving myself. And I'm not stressed either, I feel relaxed and happy...and I'm not even on meds! It started on monday and that's when my mum went to hospital (nothing serious, more like spa) and the first thing that came to my mind was "Cool, no one will care what I eat!") but how can this stop me from being physically hungry?!

Hmmm...
If you can't think of any reasons that might be causing you to lose your appetite, and you don't have any other symptoms that might suggest a medical reason, I would suggest just eating your normal amount of calories whether you are hungry or not. Try not to starve your body even if you don't feel hungry. Maybe if you keep up your usual eating habits this will pass in a day or two. If you don't get your appetite back in a few days I would recommend seeing a doctor to check for any medical cause. But hopefully you will start to get your appetite back soon, even if it is kind of a pain to have sometimes!

| Are you still having issues with not feeling hungry. The other postings I have read are right. Your body is going to go into starvation mode and that's not a good thing. What you need if you don't feel hungry is a very good Protein and Nutrition Drink to supplement until you feel your appetite coming back. If your interested let me know, I'd lke to help you. It scares me when you say your not eating.

Try to think of something your really craving. Like its always pizza or chocolate or something I would have to go and get and get it and eat it. Or something that you know just makes your moith water and eat it. I get to feeling the same way sometimes and with my size you would think that would prolly be a good thing but its not.
But when i find that one thing ive been craving I eat it and it just brings it all back and then I'm like starving and can't get enough!
Our fellow posters are more than likely right it could just be something stressing you out like a loved one being in the hospital or work or kids or anything really. You just have to take that moment to yourself.
Just don't over do it.
Good luck. Hope this helps.

The body requires nutrients to.function. most women don't get enough log ur food in my fitness pal see what ur body isn't getting and replinish that amazing how u will feel.

| If you have to use a supplement do so, but better to come from food.

cravings are tough, but they're just that. you don't HAVE to eat it and half the time you're not hungry but yet you tell yourself you are. I dont know many times i've just binged and binged and binged for absolutely no reason. In about 30 seconds its quite easy to put down 1000 calories that you don't need, don't want, and only get you more and more aggravated in your journey. View that hungry craving as a fat burning sensation. I've used this mind game before as weird as it sounds and it works awesome. If you have a solid goal and the motivation to achieve that goal at any cost, cravings become just another blip in the process. If you don't want to play mind games, the easiest thing when facing a craving is to just grab a massive glass of water, drink it, refill and repeat...

sorry, previous post a bit offtopic...but for not hungry and no appetite, are we talking all day everyday? Is there any previous experience with fasting or an eating disorder? I've used 24 hour fasting before and after awhile I can see how its easy to get use to not eating and you don't feel it as much. I guess I'd need a little more info to appropriately respond....

If you have no physical problems on apetite loss, you may be under great mental pressure; try to relax. Good luck to you.

Hi there,
I know exactly how you feel. It got that same feeling about 3 years ago. I didn't eat the whole day and I completely forgot about it. By about lunch time the next day (I didn't have breakfast again), I had the worst gastric pains ever. I needed to be hospitalized.
So please, eat at least something, keep your stomach juices from eating itself
